Triple S Surf Finals. It was a 30+mph day and messy waves. Downwinder on the south side and then enjoyed the show.
Triple S Highlights
November 10th, 2012
Only two weeks after Hurricane Sandy, we got some impact from Athena. We got strong 30mph NNW wind that brought fun ocean sessions, and later turned into WNW so the surfers got some epic sessions.

We stayed in the Kite Cub Hatteras house in Avon through hurricane Sandy, strong NE winds started picking up Friday and started switching to NW on Saturday and by Monday the water had risen about 5 feet from the canal and was covering the second step up to the porch. When the wind died down a bit we took out the SUPs to explore the neighborhood – check out the photos.

Exploring Gull Island
Gull Island is located couple miles offshore between vilages of Avon and Waves. Once inhabited and privately owned ( actually I had the chance to meet the person who’s family owned it in the past) these days the Gull Island is managed by park services and the area is closed. But you can still have fun there!!!! Basically the island is part of the huge sand bar that protects the Hatteras island from the west side, so couple hundred feet from the island the sound dept drops from 1ft to 10ft which on SW wind creates quite a swell. The waves are bout 3-4 feet on the outside fun to play and practice strapless moves and jibes. And that is exactly what we did After doing little research with our boat the next day there was strong 25mph SSW, and we took off mile marker 48th beach. Got there for about 15min, and the fun began until we got exhausted after half a day playing in the waves. On the east and south side of the island the water is very shallow and flat, perfect for wake tricks.

Erin Swain: Glorious Ocracoke Evening Session!
I was on a staycation – That’s a term I adopted from my friend Billy. It’s when you take time off work and enjoy everything your home has to offer. In my case, surfing and kiting! So I woke up early and headed over to Kite Point down near Buxton (well, I had to go back to the place I was kiting the day before to recover my sunglasses I left behind first). more….

Kiteboarding at Jockey’s Ridge, NagsHead, NC with Dimitri demoing Epic Kites
We had a blast kiteboarding at Nags head on 20-30mph West winds. The direction was side-on pretty steady. Started the day with smooth ride on Cabrinha Switchblade 2011 10m just enough to remember the comfort of riding this kites and surprise how they make things soooo easy and forgiving. Good boosts, then switched for a short sesh on my F-ones Revolt so I was out when Dimitri shows up offering me the Screamer 10m for a demo. I really had a blast on this kite, super easy for upwind, great great hang time and boosting, and I was surprised how easy and nice was to loop this kite – and not to forget the recovery of the kite after the loop. Dimitri one of the team riders Read were boosting high on Screamer 14m.

Ben Wilson in the house
After few days of waiting the strong SW winds finally kicked in, and so as the Ben Wilson shooting at the G spot. Sooo 30+ SSW winds super gusty - Wendy and I did downinder from Buxton to Avon, as we passed the spot where all the pros were riding it felt as worst wind conditions, but the best waves. Some of the riders – Ben Wilson, Jay Crawford, Dimitry, Toe Side Tom and many others – there were at least 10 riders when I passed by….

Manage to do few sessions in the ocean 10m kite and cross from Hatteras to Ocracoke Island to finish with awesome waves and side offshore wind – amazing experience and I think the NE tip of Ocracoke Island is my new favorite spot:)
